happy easter!

8 more days til semi-freedom! [sigh] this next wk will be hell... but i'm up for the challenge. i've been sleeping in 3-4 h blocks of time for the past wk. work til i'm too tired to concentrate, sleep, then get up again and work some more. it's actually working! i'm being much more productive... maybe i should do this on a regular basis. :)

oh, i forgot to tell the story of how i ended up meeting my procrastination soulmate in person. but u can read the story on her blog (mar 24 entry). she updates quite often, so if u need some entertainment and no one has updated in awhile... go check her out. :)

matt's been bugging me to exercise lately. which i know i should. given all the health benefits. every time i read my nutrition texts i wanna go to the gym. :) i wanna try to get into some kinda routine... i'll start again in 8 more days! i've been bugging matt to eat better - less red meat, more fish, more vegetables and fruit, more variety. this could work out to be a great symbiotic relationship. :P lol. how can u tell i'm in science??

speaking of exercise and my procrastination soulmate, holz posted the results of her emode "who is ur type?" test on her blog. her type is the renaissance man! :P mine on the other hand is...

Your type is the Jock. If you're looking for a great body guy, you've found him! Your Jock is anatomically perfect. He's got all the right cuts, lines, and curves. His six-pack comes from exercise, not from the convenience store. But, being the good person that you are, you're attracted to him for more than his aesthetically pleasing physique. It's hard for you to resist his extremely social nature. He's got a ton of friends, and he thrives around them. You like how people flock to your man. He's very popular and always part of the "cool crowd." There's no such thing as a party without him. He might tend to avoid intellectual discussions and political debates, but his energy and masculinity draw you in. Your Jock's a total guy's guy, and he'll make you his Homecoming Queen!

lol. who would've known!! :D ok, i do find buff guys attractive (not super buff though). but umm... i think i prefer a jock who can have intellectual discussions. :)

my results for the "what type are u?" test:

You are an Intellect. If you were one of Charlie's Angels, you'd definitely be Sabrina, the brains behind the operation. Besides the fact that you're well-read and have an insatiable desire to learn, you can hold your own in any intellectual sparring match. With a wall full of diplomas, or at least a few in the works, your hobbies and interests reflect your intelligence. Whether you're reading the New York Times or catching up on the latest independent film, it's clear that your wheels are always spinning. You probably aced your SATs, tend to scoff at "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" (even though you know all the answers), and kick butt at Trivial Pursuit. Guys love the challenge of trying to seduce you. Your brainpower drives them crazy, and you're smart enough to know that it puts you in the driver's seat.

db lol. i so did not believe this result that i took it twice!! (btw, i took the "who is ur type?" test 3 times - this was a like over a yr ago. i haven't been wasting time taking tests. :P just blogging. hehe. but anyhoo, my type was originally the "mountain man". lol. then i took it twice and it was "the jock" both times.) and twice i got the same result. but ... since when did i become an intellect?! :P

oooooo!! i fixed it. :D

hmm... i seem to be having technical difficulties. what did i do?? somebody pls help?

i love saturdays

lol. now jasy's gonna start a condom collection too. what have we done??!

shannon and i have started meeting on sat morns to pray. she's my new prayer partner! :) it's great!! we meet at 2nd cup on college. i love the sharing we do. so much to talk about. and pray about! :) i'm learning lots from her. and every time we go, i get to talk to macy, a regular at jaka's. she works at 2nd cup. :)

did i ever mention how much i love work? :) chuck says my face lights up every time i talk about it. :D it's a great place to meet ppl. lotsa really cool ppl! :) i worked the lunch hour shift today... and guess who i saw?? tannin!!! yes, first yr chem and phys chem prof, tannin!! i thought he looked mighty familiar... it was shannon who pointed out that he was tannin. no way!! i'm gonna talk to him next time he comes in. :) the other day i learned that another regular who comes in is also a ut prof. poli sci and law. coolio! :) i thought he was a writer cuz he comes in with his laptop all the time and stays for hours.

oh!! and btw - guess who i met in person? this was a wk ago, but it's definitely worth a mention in my blog. drum roll pls.... my procrastination soulmate!!! none other than holly ho. :D who also knows holly mo. at least she doesn't have ppl calling her molly ho. unlike holly mo. :D lol. it's true!!! heehee. so anyhoo, this makes a grand total of 4 girls i have met over email b4 i'd even seen them in person. all thru legit connections of course. none of that icq stranger stuff! and 2 of them have become good friends of mine so far. no boys yet. though i do have a future tennis date with one. :P him, i did meet over icq. (i get random strangers msging me ALL the time.) but it turns out he knows wongo bongo!! nooo way!! :D

i'm sorry about the lack of updates lately. i've been working hard on school. u know, i've been finding it hard to keep the big picture in mind lately. why i'm doing all this... and what it's all for. my purpose. but a speaker at a dietetic conference i went to at the beginning of the wk told us this:
purpose + passion + competency = productivity
so.. i've been trying hard to keep that in mind.

another thing i've been thinking about is the need to get out of my comfort zone. more often.

[sigh]

encouragement

The truth is, we are perfectly and uniquely imperfect - one of a kind, a very limited edition.
Our imperfections enable us to be different, to explore new frontiers. To have fun, to laugh and be ourselves. Imagine living contentedly with your imperfect self, valuing your imperfect self and celebrating being adequate. Picture being ordinary, enjoying being human, and feeling at home in the world. It's okay to be less than perfect. Love and accept yourself for who you are.

a boy like this

u know what i think? the majority of ppl are self-centred. rarely will u find a person who genuinely cares for other ppl all the time. ppl have their moments, but i'd say most of the time they're focused on themselves. when u find someone who puts others first, hold onto them. cuz they're one of a kind.

this led me to think about something i haven't given much thought to in awhile - what i want in a boy.
these are my criteria:
1) loves God
2) loves other ppl.
so... what does this really mean? other than that he follows the first and second commandments, as brian said. :)
well... loves God. he should be God-centred, meaning that he loves the lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength. i'd like to be attracted to him first and foremost because of his passion for God. and that means a lot. his love for God should be reflected in his entire life, everything he does and says. consistent. ... loves other ppl. selfless, giving. puts others before himself, has a genuine interest in the lives of the ppl he talks to, cares for. his love for ppl should be obvious in the way he uses his time, the way he thinks and the way he acts.

if he has these two criteria, i think everything else will fall into place. i have yet to find a boy who has both of these characteristics and who loves me. but u know what? i think he'll be worth the wait. and in the meantime, i've got a lot to work on to be worthy of a boy like this. :)

work work i love work

it's crunch time. 3 more wks til everything is due and i've barely started! time to get down to work and stop slacking. i spent 12 h at school today. phew.. what a long day. mondays are always killer.

i did eg 4.3 tonight. a good reminder that how God wants us to show our love for him is thru obedience. and that the commands that he's given us are not meant to restrict us, but to give us freedom. a really good example was given - what God intends for us in the pure, perfect love of a marriage relationship and how the command not to commit adultery is aimed to free us to experience God's intention for marriage. rather than restricting us from having relationships with other ppl. when u put it that way, it makes so much sense.

i especially liked a verse in one of the passages we were to read: deut 32:46-47.
"he said to them 'take heart all the words i have solemnly declared to u this day, so that u may command ur children to obey carefully all the words of this law. they are not just idle words for u - they are ur life. by them u will live long in the land u are crossing the jordan to possess.'"
they are ur life!! God gives us his commands so that we can live life to the fullest. wow.

in cell grp last wk, we read the chapter on submission in 'celebration of discipline'. we all agreed to start our days in the following wk with a prayer, submitting our day to God. submitting our day so that he can use it to the fullest, for his glory, for his purposes. well, it's been a wk. and i can't say that my wk's been all that diff. i find it hard to remember the presence of God in the routine of the day, i get so caught up in just doing things. running from class to meeting to work to books. complaining about teachers and talking about contracts and menu evaluations and summer placements still up in the air. and b4 u know it, the day is over and i haven't drawn strength from God's presence with me throughout the whole day. sad.

after the sat night talk about spiritual warfare and scary memories of happenings in kenya, i decided i'm gonna memorize ephesians 6:10-20. good piece of scripture to have tucked into ur memory. so... verse of the day: eph 6:10 "finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power."

i'm off to prep for tmr's media communications class and make my lunch! la la lala la la, la lalala la... (think smurfs) :)

what a beautiful day!!

the sun is shining the grass is green
the orange and palm trees swaying
there's never been such a day ... in beverly hills LA.

GOD IS GREAT, AND HIS GRACE FILLS THE EARTH, FILLS THE HEAVENS!
and your name will be praised o'er the world
GOD IS GREAT, SING HIS PRAISE ALL THE EARTH, ALL THE HEAVENS!
cuz we're living for the glory of your name!

i want to know YOU
i want to hear YOUR voice
i want to know YOU more
i want to touch YOU
i want to see YOUR face
i want to know YOU more!!

good to know facts

i found out that 8 timbits is the maximum number i can eat at one time without wanting to puke. after my 9th i wasn't feeling so great.

i also learned tonight that down is the bestest thing ever. invest in a down jacket and u will never be cold!!! even after sitting outside for 1.5 h and ur feet and legs are frozen. but not ur torso! no sirree! it's nice and toasty.

fri nights are good for solitude and figuring things out in life. God is good!!!
"but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to u as well."
matt 6:33
amen!!

dawson's was a rerun tonight. but it was scary. brings back recent memories of freaky websites (sent by evil ppl to innocent icq users) and not so recent memories of eerie faces looking in through the bathroom window. ange thinks i'm a wimp. but what about those plastic doll heads, eh?! :P

cell grp

... was great tonight. it always is. we've been going thru "celebration of discipline" by richard foster. great book. one thing that occurred to me during our time was how much i missed praying with other ppl. my prayer life is sporadic, if not nonexistent at times. and nothing beats sharing with other strong christians who are on fire and have a passion for jesus. or even keeping up with our weekly struggles and concerns and joys and happiness. i miss that constant source of support and fellowship. this yr has been really different. reaching out on my own... without drawing strength from fellowship as much, more from God alone and scripture. but we truly are made for fellowship. i miss prayer times and sharing (and living with amy) and lunches and coffee with ppl. hermitism has it drawbacks.

retreat this wkd was good. i'm glad i went. not quite what i expected, but still worth it. i got to know some of the aunties and uncles at church - lots with very young families. ppl i had no idea went to cpc. for some reason i rarely see any of the aunties, but i did recognize most of the uncles. though it's weird calling them that. :) spending time with them made me think of what we'll be like when we're older and have little kids of our own running around. the difference in generations - they were kinda like a mix btwn my parents' generation and us. weird. erns and i had dinner with the "guys" on fri night and my discussion grp was the "girls", so i got to see both sides. it definitely is a different world that we'll be entering. it seems so far off... and yet... so near.

hung out with matt, shannon and erns a bit. shannon and i roommed together. matt and erns were next door. nice place - like motel rooms! i was expecting bunk beds and cabins and such. well, maybe not so bad. the wind was crazy on sat night!! there was even a blackout. matt and erns came over to play. :)

i tried krispy kreme for the first time last night. from anita... thanx, chicky. :) they were.... yummy.... but ... yeah, but. just goes to show what expectations do. my theory proves itself yet again. they're good, but i don't get the 2 h line up at 2 am. they're super sweet. and super grease. i could tell with the first bite.

so.. i'm finding it hard to be good and get enough sleep. how does one balance doing work with getting enough sleep to not be yawning all the time? plus spend quality time with God. for a day i tried not sleeping when i was tired and only after my work was all done. but no can do.... i wanted to go full force today all the way to midnight but i had to come home after cell grp cuz i was too tired to go to the lib to study. after class all morn and work in the aft. i guess i can't run on 4 h of sleep even though i did go for a run at lunch hoping that it'd give me some extra energy. which lasted all of a whole hour cuz work was super busy and everyone's nerves were shot. i wonder how ppl do it. lead a balanced life. seems a daunting task. blogging takes up a whole lotta time too. well, that and catching up on everyone else's blogs. i no longer spend time checking several times a day. :P anyhoo... i'm determined to keep up with my resolutions and keep being good. so i'm still in hibernation.

anyhoo, off to bed. early to bed, early to rise, makes a girl healthy, wealthy, and wise. :) well, healthy will do. wise would be good too. :P

back to zzzz....

so i got up early and got all ready to go to my placement. i called joy to make sure that she was there, but no answer. i waited around for a bit and just when i was like - forget it, i'm going to etobicoke general anyway, she calls and says she left me a long msg on my machine yesterday. but i never got it! :( so anyways, we rescheduled for tmr morn 8:30.. yikes. i really feel for all these ppl who have to commute now!! i've never had to commute cuz my parents have been great, letting me live dt every yr (has to do with my mom's mentality of not wasting valuable time that could be spent studying. little does she know.... :P). well, i guess it means i get to sleep some more now. i'm so tired. this morn i was thinking to myself, why is it that the one thing that's constantly on my mind is how much i want to sleep? but then when i go take a nap it takes me at least half an hour to fall asleep. what a waste of time.

thanx for ur answers bout the diff btwn righteousness and goodness, matt and jon. :) so quick! hmm.. i never thought about it that way, jon. lemme think about it some more and find that verse that made me start thinking about the 2.

perth is so far?? :( i never knew!! 75 km north of kingston, matt said. hmm... kate, who's in charge of finding us placements for our summer practicum, asked me to consider working in perth. there's accommodation available she said, and i'll get paid too. plus i'll for sure need a car to get around. maybe i'll have to do a lot of things in the community or something. but hm... i don't think my parents were intending to give me the car for the summer, only to borrow for going back and forth to work every day. if it was that far i wouldn't even be able to come back for the wkd every wk... that'd be a lotta driving. the placement does sound kinda interesting though - food security, consumer information, school health programs and the Eat Smart! program. if i worked out of town i couldn't work at jaka's anymore either... that might be a good/bad thing. cuz then i'd get more time to myself and studying (i should take a correspondence course, i think) and maybe softball... but i wonder how that would work. but then i dunno if i'd ever go back to jaka's cuz i don't even know if i'll be able to live dt next fall. it'll be hard to find a place for just 4 months since i'm starting a practicum in jan, hopefully even out of the country. hm... gotta pray some more.

miscellaneous

yay, conball's back. :)

well, the lack of updates of late have been due to my trying hard to be good. deciding btwn updating or sleeping, sleep always wins. well... that and talking to matt. :P i've been kinda frustrated lately cuz there's too much going on and i can't seem to sit down and do work. and when i actually do, i'm too tired to concentrate fully, so i end up giving up and going to bed or installing stuff on my computer. hehe. or surfing or talking online. why can i never do work at the beginning of the wk?? it's always the wkd that i accomplish a bit more. hmm... gotta work on that. and sleep is a big big factor. i need enough sleep!!! to work effectively.

so in other news, MY COMPUTER WORKS GREAT!!! my boy's the bestest. :D what can i say. :) it finally doesn't take 10 min to load a pic and i don't have to cut and paste links anymore. woohoo! and it's fun playing with stuff "under the hood" as matt calls it. :)

anyhoo, i need sleep cuz i am deprived. and also cuz i gotta get up at 6:30 tmr morn to get myself over to the william osler health centre (formerly known as etobicoke general) for the first of my placement visits. even though i still haven't been able to get in touch with the dietitian i'm supposed to shadow. what is it with my luck with placements? the last time i had one with a lady from a meals on wheels program, she completely forgot about me. after i took the bus aaaallll the way to villa columbo. i hope this works out tmr. otherwise i'll have to go aaaalll the way to etobicoke again. an extra time.

remind me to talk about marriage and simplicity in my next blog.

oh, and does anyone know where perth is? not in australia. ontario somewhere. i think it's around toronto maybe.

one last question. what's the diff btwn goodness and righteousness?

umm.... reply in my guestbk, s'il vous plait. :) merci beaucoup!

alrighty, c'est ca. tuanani kesho!
(ooo... a mix of english, french and swahili :D)

amazing love

i'm forgiven
because You were forsaken
i'm accepted
You were condemned

i'm alive and well
Your spirit lives within me
because You died and rose again

amazing love
how can it be
that You my king would die for me

amazing love
i know it's true
and it's my joy to honour You
in all i do, i honour You.
